Biography:

Katy Holmes is a Staff Scientist for the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program (SDRP), Brookfield Zoo Chicago, based at Mote Marine Laboratory. She manages the Sarasota Bay Listening Network (SBLN), a collaborative passive acoustic monitoring program bringing together institutions of higher education, industry, and citizen scientists, and is also an external collaborator with Shark Bay Dolphin Research. She is broadly interested in the behavioral responses of bottlenose dolphins to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Her work with the SBLN team uses bottlenose dolphins as a model species to develop passive acoustic monitoring tools for population assessment and behavioral observation. Another research focus is on social development, especially the ontogeny of male reproductive behavior and functions of juvenile social play in dolphins.
